Why do people smoke though they know its injurious to health?
Answer:
For some, it's because life is hard and fraught with all kinds of pain and stress.
When life is a difficult place to be, people turn to all sorts of things to alleviate the stress, or at least ro provide a distraction from the stressors... some to alcohol, some to drugs, some to self-injury of one kind or another... some to workaholism.. Some people choose healthier ways to alleviate the stress -- some to jogging, walking, or biking, some to yoga.
I think the choices we make about handling stress have a lot to do with the models we had growing up... BY the same token, a lot of the stress some of us have, has a lot to do with what we were saddled with, growing up (i.e., various forms of abuse, depressed parents, absent parents, etc.).
That said, I dealt with abuse growing up. I used to be outwardly angry, until I realized I didn't want to hurt anyone else... so then I turned to self- injury. It kept my anger on myself... no one else had to hurt... though I felt suicidal, I knew that suicide would hurt my loved ones... when I was in my 30's, I took up smoking. The angrier I was (undealt with emotions) the more cigs I smoked. I figured it was like playing roulette. If I developed cancer and died, great; if not, life would go on as before.
The folks I know, who smoke, are just dealing with the stresses in life. They're playing roulette while paying the bills and doing the "responsible thing," until a better choice shows up.
If you don't understand why people smoke, though smoking is bad for their health, then thank God that your life had been so blessed... note that I did not say your life has been easy... but somewhere along the line, you learned how to deal with hardship in positive ways.
Because they need the nicotine
Unfortunately, its another addiction. And like all addictions, the way it makes a person feel seems to trump the health risks.
Because they think its cool when there young and by the time they older and have the brains to quit, they cant because the addicted.
I smoke so I don't get cancer from stress. But I suppose I will just get it from smoking. So I figure if I'm gonna die from cancer anyway I might as well do it without being pissed off or worried all the time.
becos it maeks them relacks. when pisst off tehy wont smoke so tehy can relacks. smoke maeks relacks nice
its addictive and then it becomes a daily process. its the same thing as asking . why do people overeat? stress, daily reflex.
I've never been able to figure that out myself really. I know i enjoy smoking, but i do not smoke cigarettes. I only smoke extremely high quality kreteks, and pipe tobacco. High quality tobacco is a little expensive, but has no additives or preservitives, so it's not unhealthy at all. And if you're wondering, kreteks are similar to cigarettes, but they are made of dried clove leaves, and are not unhealthy. If you wish to try them, go to your local tobacco outlet, and ask for djarum. I would reccomend beginners to try a mild type before they try the plain kreteks, as the flavor is quite strong.
P.S. I only smoke once every two weeks, sometimes less than that. It's a hobby for me, not an addiction, so please, no lectures.
It's because of the nicotine. It makes the smoker very addicted to that chemical.
its an addiction once they start they cannot stop smoking
Usually people aqre unaware of the seriousness of the consequences when they start. After that, they are addicted. I smoke. I wish I never started. Cigarettes are more addictive than Heroin. I started when I was 13, and obviously at that age I knew they were bad for me but I just figured (like everyone else) that I'll quit before I get old enough to where they could make me really sick. Obviously I didn't understand addiction, as most people who have never been addicted to anything don't understand it either. I didn't understand that maybe I won't be able to just quit whenever I feel like it. Obviously I know all the dangers, but that doesn't effect the addiction in any way. It doesn't make it any easier to quit. Especially when those dangers are 30+ years away (for most people my age). There is a new pill out though that has helped 3 people in my family quit. It attaches to nicotine receptors in your brain so that your brain thinks you are already getting nicotine, therefore you don't really crave it. I'm going to try it when I get insurance. All I can say is don't start and you'll never have to worry about being in that predicament.
To laugh at the face of Death. To choose their way. To rebel and be free today. But I do have to say it is stupid/courageous. I rather get shot to death, stabbed to death, bleed to death than lie in a hospital bed for a year having a machine breath for me as the cancer eats at you from the inside out.
Its addictive, same as drinking coffee. Some even got the chick to say life it short so live it to the fullest.
I guess it is a matter of taste.
It drains vitamins, so cigarettes should come
with a pack of vitamin C,A,E for the lungs.
I smoke to take a break/time out. A time to think without having to yammer about something. A time to shut everyone out and think something through for a change.
It's as addictive as any other drug out there, with the side benefit. Now pay attention, I'm only going to say this once.
If you ever land yerself in a fire, smoke is like a *****(not censored by me) down the throat and you will not be able to breathe as the choke/gag reflex closes one's throat. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BREATHE. I practically carried a campus cop off of a fire, because his breathing shut down during a fire. One breath of smoke and he was literally on the floor of no practical assistance or use to ANYONE. I smoke, Everybody dies of something.
Well most young people tend to pick up smoking because they think that it makes them look cool. Older people smoke because they have stress. Once they are hooked its hard to quit so most people dont.
Why do people see smokeing weed as abad thing?
i mean i do it on a regualar basis and i stilll feel the same, i mean sure im a little more tired but i dont mind
i mean is weed really that bad?
i just hate how some people cant understand the drug like my parents they see it as a bad thing but if they had at least done it once in their lifes they could see thats its not as bad as everyone says it is
and is it true that it really doesnt kill brain cells
Answer:
While my kids were growing up I told them often that I'd rather they smoke weed than drink alcohol. It is a far more benign chemical. However, it is still a drug and it is still illegal and your parents still have to enforce the law. Otherwise, as they well know, they will have a lot of legal problems to deal with. They are doing the right thing by not allowing you to smoke weed.
No, weed does not kill brain cells but it is far worse for your lungs than cigarettes are. The same tars are created burning weed but are not filtered and you hold the smoke in a lot longer. Pot will hurt you in that respect.
I also believe from personal experience, that it makes you apathetic and dulls your wits. I decided I didn't like feeling stupid and slow so haven't touched the stuff in more than 20 years. It really makes a difference after you've been away from it for a couple weeks. Your brain starts working better again.
Once you are an adult, I believe it should be your choice if you want to use drugs. But consider carefully. Do you really want to go through life with your head in a cloud?
you should go to abovetheinfluence.com or actually watch the commercials about drugs. They will kill you if your not careful. NOT THAT I AM ENCOURAGING IT!
Well if you didn't smoke weed you might remember punctuation...
its because no one likes hippies
First of all I can almost guarentee your parents have smoked weed.
Weeds effects can be bad because people get in thier cars and drive while high, and end up hurting themselves for being dumb. It impairs your ability to make good decisions. Your parents are protecting you because they don't want you to get hurt. And I cant imagine that weed wouldnt kill your braincells, you know that melted feeling you get when your high? That's your braincells, wasting away. Oh and weed usually has like 10x as much tar in it that a cigarette does.
So, smoking is your choice, but if your going to do it, at least be responsible about it. I wouldn't want my boys smoking either.
cuz its the DEVIL who grows it and rolls it
you know what, your parents probably did do it. and they are still telling you its a bad thing. you should think about that.
now its not that bad. i dont think it kills brain cells. its really fun. makes you think in new ways. but there are three issues:
1. smoking anything is risky for your lungs and oral health.
2. some people like it too much and it can really affect your cash flow and energy flow.
3. over time is numbs you. makes you eat more.
My advice to you is dont do it on a regular basis. keep it casual, every now and again. I have seen a lot of people just turn into stoners. no ambition, no drive, no money. It seems harmless. but before you know it, its harmful.
you got me dude! :) basically its scare tactics and the media showing kids it a horrible thing from when they were little and getting them to believe over exaggerated or just plain untrue things. That's my take
haha I totally ******* agree with the guy thats posting this question. you obviously are all listening to the American Government who barely do studies on it and when they do, they change them to fit how they want it to be. A report in England stated that people actually drive BETTER while under the influence, because theyre more attentive. and while it effects short term memory loss, you can gain it back and it actually makes long term memory even better. It probably does kill brain cells, but so doesnt everything. Marijuana isnt really that bad. People have been smoking it for ages.
Well it is illegal. On that note it is bad because you can go to jail get a record and cause legal issues for your parents if you live at home.
Furthermore, its really not that bad. A lot of parents think this because 30 years ago or when ever todays parents were doing drug you started with weed and then went to things like cocaine or lsd or meth or angel dust.
Today's teenagers arent really into those drugs. Instead they abuse RX drugs. Parents are so focused on cocaine and acid that they dont realize that its not what people do anymore. But in their time weed led to all that, so they think it still does.
ur stupid, ur parents r 100% true! just look up stuff on the internet and look at this stuff ur smokin, i bet u dont notice the bad stuff happening to u, and NO ur parents shud never ever try sumthin as horrible as that crap!

Why do people have to have their tonsils removed?
Answer:
Not everyone has them removed, but when they DO remove them, it's because they are chronically infected and it's not worth it to the patient to keep them. They aren't necessary, so it makes no sense to keep them and constantly have to see a doctor when they flair up...when they can just take them out and never have to worry about it again.
they swell and cause a sore throat.
got mine out 3 years ago.
There is no such thing as tonsils, they implant mind controlling chips into your brain. The government has been doing it since the 1950s. FACT.
well hon thats simple they start to swell then they start to hurt so they get them removed
I had mine removed when I was 7. I was sick most of the time before that with earaches and all sorts of stuff. Mainly my tonsils were infected so badly that they were huge and I had a difficult time swallowing and breathing. Usually an infection.
I had my tonsils removed at the age of 14 as in my life time I had developed Tonsillitis over 53 times. When I did have them removed, My surgeon said to me they were the largest and most poisonous tonsils he had seen in at least 20 years!! OMG
Most people I know who have had theirs removed have pretty much had the same thing
so they wont get infections ther anymore people who get them removed is becuz ther always sick from there
Years ago, they were removed routinely as soon as someone got an infection. Now they are only removed in cases of recurrent strep throat/tonsilitis, or if they are large and causing airway problems.
Tonsillectomy may be indicated when the patient:
Experiences frequent bouts of acute tonsillitis. The number requiring tonsillectomy varies with the severity of the episodes. One case, even severe, is generally not enough for most surgeons to decide tonsillectomy is necessary.
Has chronic tonsillitis, consisting of persistent, moderate-to-severe throat pain.
Has multiple bouts of peritonsillar abscess.
Has sleep apnea (stopping or obstructing breathing at night due to enlarged tonsils or adenoids)
Difficulty eating or swallowing due to enlarged tonsils
My brother had strep lodged in his tonsils--it was like this permanent strep infection. He got strep throat over and over, like 8 times in 6 months, something ridiculous.
They were really big and inflamed and he actually got sleep apnea because they were blocking his airway. He needed braces, but the orthodontist wouldn't give him braces until he got the tonsils removed (he said the sleep apnea would make him sleep with his mouth open and the braces wouldn't work or something. Maybe he just felt the tonsils were a higher priority than the teeth. Dunno.)
But he stopped snoring and slept better afterward and he stopped having strep throat. Plus he got his braces, which made his teeth look dramatically better.
It can help a lot.
they get to big and it hard for u too breath. hope this is the answer u were looking for!
you don't have to get them removed...
alot of people get them removed because they have alot of problems with them.. like
having a sore throat all the time, or their tonsils always being swollen or all the time. most of that stuff is caused by Tonsillitis which is like an infection of your tonsils, and if you're always getting them the best way to take care of it is to just get rid of them entirely
dont listen to anyone who says its cause they swell, thats wrong, most of the poeple that have them removed is because they dont need them, hardly ever is it cause they are swelling and making them sick, that can happen, but that means their tonsil is oversized, and that why they are removed, but there are many different reasons, mine were taken out because when i was little i snored HELLA loud like crazy, but ya there are different reason, also, is this just something you are personally wondering, or are you having yours removed and dont know why, your parents or doctor said you have to have them removed?
Well I had my tonsils removed because my tonsils swelled up in my throat making it hard for me to swallow anything and breathe since they kept getting bigger. I would get infections in my throat and it would have pus, sore throat and it would hurt really bad. I had what is called tonsilectomy. Thats why some people have their tonsils removed.
What are Tonsils %26 Adenoids?Tonsils are ball-like clumps of lymphoid tissue located on both sides of the back of the throat. Some scientists believe that the tonsils work as part of the body鈥檚 immune system. They help the body fight infection by filtering out germs as they enter the breathing passages through the mouth and nose.
The adenoids are a clump of lymphoid tissue similar to that of tonsils, but located higher up in the throat, behind the nose. Adenoids also help the body fight infections by trapping and fighting germs as they pass through the breathing.
The reason I have provided these definitions are because generally, they work together. Growing up, I used to 'hold my mouth open" as if I was unable to get enough air through the nose. Doctors recommended the removal of my adenoids and tonsils but my mother would not agree. Infected tonsils can be very painful and cause excessive sore throat. Both of these are related to about 75% of sleep disorders.
Back in the day, 'ice cream' was the recommended treat for a kid who was hospitalized for this surgery -
It is the most common surgery performed, even today.
DEEP THROAT
They only have them removed when the begin to give them medical problems. My tonsils are intact.
Why do people have dirreah?
Answer:
It is because there is too much water in your intestines.
It is mostly just caused by that but other reasons come along with illness, food poisoning, etc.
If there is too much water in your intestines, it is diarrhea.
If there isn't enough water, then it's constipation.
Hope I helped :]
er...breaks of life mate.
go suk a fat one. then eat your sh_it you weird azz
diarrhea? stomach viruses, food poisoning, other illnesses that have that for a symptom
From looking at your face most likely
It's the way a person's body expels harmful substances, just like vomiting. That's why it's not recommended that you try to "hold it" or take medicine to stop diarrhea- you often do more harm than good by doing that.
What is dirreah? Is that what Anne Frank had?
having food poisoning, and trying to get rid of the bad sh*t that entered ur body. Do u have diarhea now...? awww, that suks. drink water and gatorade
I get it if I drink a lot of apple juice.
Why do people not use spell check?.it's diarrhea.
Why do people get their tonsils taken out?
Answer:
They used to do them as a pretty standard procedure on small children because they are such a trap for bacteria, etc. That's actually part of their function, to trap bacteria before they spread further, causing a more serious infection. That's why they stopped doing it as a standard procedure.
I had to have mine out about 5 years ago, well after the age of 30. I had a thing called crypts, which are basically pits in the tonsils which trap bacteria and food particles. (I know, it's totally disgusting.) Many people with crypts are able to clean them out simply by pressing on the tonsils, but my crypts were so deep that I was unable to keep them clean. They grew enlarged, and were often sore even when they were not infected because of all the gunk trapped in there. That's why I had mine out.
I know more than a few people who have had theirs out because they became chronically infected. My friend has a son who had chronic strep infections. No amount of antibiotics could clear up the infection. He would get a little bit better for a while, and his temperature would go away, but within a week or so of stopping antibiotics, he would develop strep throat again. A doctor finally found that the problem was that his tonsils were completely riddled with strep bacteria. They were so heavily infected that no amount of antibiotics could cure the problem, so they were removed. That did away with the problem.
I used to get strep at least once every year, and often twice a year or more. I have not had strep once since my tonsils were removed. I am happy to have them gone. Most people who have them removed now have them removed for a similar reason. They can be a reservoir of chronic infection, they can be enlarged, which blocks the throat, or they can constantly be sore. It's just easier to remove them when they become a problem. Few doctors recommend having them removed in children unless there is a problem, so many more people have theirs nowadays than in the past. That's fine--they actually are a good thing to have as long as they don't start causing problems. When they do, it's just easier to have them out.
I think they get them taken out when they keep getting effected or causing sickness...they are supposed to help the immune system but when they dont help much and just cause infection they get them removed..
Your tonsils can get infected, which can affect your voice, throat, and make you sick. You can have them taken out in order to rid of this infection.
if they have multiple. bad cases of tonsillitis, the Dr's will recommend taking them out, to eliminate the problem.
they prolly go to the doc
if they start getting fungus in them, then sometimes youre better off to take out the whole toenail, rather than for the fungus to get really bad and getting into your toe. some fungus is fatal and you could have to get your toe amputated from it.
They take them out because when you get sick and the tonsils get infected, it can be deadly and they have to take them out.
Why do people get really bad migranes?
i get them alot and i was just wondering what causes them
Answer:
my mom gets them a lot, and I got them when I was pregnant. For my mom different foods cause it, like foods that are cured like sausage, and MSG causes it, because of the salt content. Also, we have a family history of seizure disorders, and my mom's dr said that her migranes could be mild seizures. Hope that helps!
Its usually stress or the lack of oxygen goin to the brain.. sometimes its because a persons ego is too big for their head.
If its stress learn to relax, if its lack of oxygen take deep breaths if that doesn't work see a doctor. If its the ego then your screwed!
I have suffered from migraines for about the last 5 yrs. I have had every test and tried numerous medications. My Doctor put me on cymbalta which is and antidepressant but has helped so much. I do get about 1 Migraine a month about the time of my period which they have narrowed down to just hormone changes. I would see your dr and explore your options
